VELOCITY DANCE CENTER
FAQ
Q: Is there a trial class before commiting to enrolling?
A: Yes, you can try one class in each style before deciding what class is right for you. There is no cost to try the class. Once you enroll you will pay your membership fee and choose your class and payment plan. Membership fees are due at the time of enrollment.
Q: What are the costs of the class and what additional fees will we have throughout the year?
A: We have transparent pricing at Velocity Dance Center so you never have any surprise fees. When you enroll you will have an annual membership fee which allows you access to our membership perks which you can view HERE. Our tuition is calculated for the full season and our Winter Showcase and Recital Packages include everything you need for a great show. Our team wil prorate tuition for dancers who enroll after September 1st. You can view all of our pricing HERE. Our fees can be paid in equal monthly installments on the 1st of the month or can be paid in bi-monthly installments on the 1st and 15th of the month.
Q: Why are the payments the same even when there are breaks during the month?
A: Tuition rates are for the full season. We do not charge for scheduled breaks and allow for 1 full week of weather or emergency closures. These scheduled closings are factored into the tuition pricing. Our payment plans are an equal installment plan, which means your payments are the same each month based on the plan you choose.
Q: What if my child doesn’t like the class?
A: We offer a 30-day risk-free money-back guarantee to new clients starting classes with us. When withdrawing from a class, the responsible party must notify the office by completing the withdrawal form 5 days before the next installment due date, or tuition and fees for the next installment will be charged. (ex: If you pay by monthly installments and wish to discontinue lessons in Nov. you must turn in the official drop form by Oct. 26th.) If a class is dropped, there are no discounts, credits, or refunds of any pre-paid fees. You can access the withdrawal form at https://bit.ly/2425withdrawal
Q: How long does the season run?
A: Seasonal classes run the first week of August – the 2nd Saturday in June. Our Boppin’ Sessions run in 8-week sessions.
Q: How do I enroll in classes?
A: You can enroll through our online portal. Once we receive your enrollment we will create your paperwork for your preferred payment plan (our portal does not allow you to choose a payment plan online, but we will get you taken care of). We will then get your account updated and you are ready to go!
Q: Where are you located?
A: We are located on the Northewest corner of Rockwell and Hefner. We are in the Crest Shopping Center. We are on the same strip as Crest on the east end of the shopping center. You can click HERE to view a map of our location.
Q: What should my child wear to class?
A: Each class has a dress code for the class. You can find the class dress code in our Studio Info Kit HERE. Having a dress code is part of traditional formal
dance training. A dress code creates uniformity, helps dancers mentally prepare for class,
and allows the teacher to give the students corrections. Students are expected to be in dress code for every class. Hair and shoes are part of the dress code. Dancers are not permitted to wear jewelry of any kind in dance class (except for
post earrings) for the safety of themselves, the dancers around them, and their teachers.Skirts, whether attached or unattached, are not allowed. Skirts can be a distracting toy for
young dancers and hide the body alignment in older dancers. We understan that occasional a dancer may be out of dress code due to unforeseen circumstances, and we encourage dancers to attend class anyway.
Q: Are there performance opportunities for the dancers?
A: Yes! Our dancers enrolled in our full season classes have 2 performances. Our fun and casual winter showcase will give the dancers a small taste of performing and a big chance to show off what they have been learning. This years performance is at Will Rogers Theater on Saturday, January 25th. It will include coffee, tea, water, and treats! Our Recital is the celebration of the season! Your dancer will show off all of their moves in a fantastic costume on the big stage, complete with stage lights and fun!
Q: Do we have to participate in the performances?
A: We do not require dancers to participate in performances, however, we do find that dancers who opt out of performing often do not have a great experience in class. They often feel left out during the excitement of the performance season because they know they do not get to be a part of the experience.
Many parents worry about how their dancer will do on stage or how they will react. Our team has been helping dancers have successful shows for 18 years. We encourage parents to be confident in their dancer’s abilities to get on stage and to be realistic about what the result looks like at every age and stage. We do not expect that a 3-year-old will execute every step perfectly, and every dancer will learn and grow at their own pace. We believe that every dancer will benefit from participating in performances!
Participating in performances is highly beneficial for dancers, offering numerous advantages backed by research. Performance opportunities enhance dancers’ confidence and self-esteem, as noted in a study by the National Dance Education Organization, which found that regular performances help dancers overcome stage fright and build resilience (Jones, 2020). Additionally, performances provide a platform for dancers to showcase their skills and receive constructive feedback, crucial for their artistic growth and development. According to a report by the Journal of Dance Medicine & Science, the experience of performing in front of an audience improves dancers’ technical proficiency and stage presence (Smith, 2019). The collaborative nature of preparing for a performance fosters teamwork and a sense of community among dancers.
Q: What are your class sizes?
A: Our class capacity varies from 10 – 20 dancers depending on the age, style, and level of classes. Toddler and Preschool classes will have assistants for classes over 5 dancers. Kindergarten – 4th grade classes will have an assistant for classes over 7 dancers.
Q: How do you communicate with parents?
A: We send out a Weekly Wednesday email every Wednesday evening. The Weekly Wednesday will have a calendar for upcoming events and closings. It will have the next 4 weeks information in it. All of our information goes out by email. You can also find upcoming event information on the A-Frame signs located outside of the studios.
Q: What is your parent observation policy?
A: Our seasonal classes are for dancers only. We do not allow parents in the classroom to watch. While you are a safe person to your child you are a stranger to the other children in the class. Having many grown-ups watch in the class can be very scary to dancers and cause anxiety in the dancers. It is also hard for the dancers to have parents and the teacher coaching them in class.
We do believe in transparency in our classes which is why we have invested in the Watch Me Grow App! Parents are always welcome and encouraged to watch their dancer’s class on our secure Watch Me Grow App. Parents can invite an additional 3 users to their accounts to watch their child’s class as well through the settings in their account. Parents are only able to watch the classes that their child is in. Due to child protection laws, the app does not have sound. Once a year we have parent participation week where the parents join us in class to participate and see what class is like for their dancer.
Our Boppin’ Babies and Boppin’ Tots classes are parent-assisted. One grown-up is allowed to attend those classes with the child.
Q: What happens if my child misses a class?
A: · Dancers are always welcome to make up missed classes for any reason within 4 weeks of the absence in an age-appropriate class of any style and where space allows. Credits and refunds are not issued for missed classes.
Q: What is your studio closing and cancellation policy?
A: Hazardous weather or last-minute closing decisions will be made by 2:00 pm for evening classes and 8:00 am for morning classes. Closing notification are sent out by email or text message to the responsible party and posted on the VDC Facebook page.
Classes missed due to studio closings will not be rescheduled. We allow for one week of closing within our pricing structure. Dancers who wish to make up a class missed for studio closings are welcome to make up in any class on the schedule in the next 4 weeks. VDC reserves the right to deliver class content via an online system in the event that in person classes are unable to be conducted for any reason including but not limited to: weather, teacher absence, governmental advisory, illness.
