Oklahoma City Dance Team Entertains & Competes
Velocity Dance Center Company is a competitive dance team made up of 60 dancers that offers students (from age 5 to 18) elite training and the chance to perform. With appearances at the State Fair, Festival of the Arts, and others, the Velocity dance team attends up to three competitions each year and have been entertaining audiences and successfully competing throughout the Oklahoma City area.
Audition for a Spot on the Velocity Dance Team
To be accepted into the Company, students must be between five and 18 years old and have at least one year of dance lessons. Typically, we hold auditions in June after our recitals. During tryouts, we look for showmanship and a love of dance as well as dancing potential.
Dancers accepted for the Velocity Dance Team will strengthen their technical skills and performance ability as they receive in-depth training. Also, we offer dance master classes for Velocity dance team members to further refine their skills and abilities.
The Velocity dance team performs ballet, jazz, tap, lyrical, contemporary/modern, and musical theater dance styles.
How to Prepare for the Audition
For dancers planning on trying out for a place on the Velocity dance team, we recommend to practice regularly and take classes in different dance styles. We also encourage students to train year-round to fine-tune their technique.
When dancers arrive for the audition, they should wear a solid color leotard and tights and bring jazz pants (or leggings) as well as their shoes. Starting with a brief warmup, our instructors lead auditions in a format similar to our dance classes. After the warmup, dancers will be guided through a combination of several dance styles.
Those dancers who are selected for the Velocity dance team are placed into groups based on their strengths and abilities. For competition and performances, we consider dancers for solo, duets/trios, small group, and large group numbers.

Classes
Company dancers who are in Kindergarten – 3rd grade take classes with our Academy dancers. Starting at Level 6, we divide classes into Academy and Company sections. Then, we level Company dancers for the upcoming year at auditions.

The Velocity Dance Team Company offers dancers who love the “big stage” the chance to perform more! Each year our dancers participate in several local performances, including the Oklahoma State Fair, Festival of the Arts, and more!
